The latest addition to our backyard entertaining space is the Abba Patio Swing. I have always envisioned a large house with a big wrap-around porch and a quaint porch swing for long summer afternoons listening to music and sipping lemonade. As it turns out, I didn’t end up with the large house to support a large porch, let alone a swing. This sturdy little two-seater hearkens back to that vision in my head and our family has spent a number of afternoons and evenings enjoying the swing this summer.

Let’s talk about assembly – I see there is an “expert” assembly option for an additional charge, but it really isn’t that difficult to put together. If you can follow directions, use a wrench and tighten a few screws, you’ll be fine. The hardest part of the whole process was stretching the canopy over the frame and getting it attached – while I was finally able to do it alone, it might be helpful to have another person to help with that part.

In addition to the assembly parts, Abba Patio throws in the tools, so you don’t even need to break out a tool box. I would definitely recommend using the directions for the best outcome, however. If you choose to go it alone, you may need to make some changes for aesthetic reasons after you have finished.

Let’s talk about the swing itself – It’s a comfortable seat for two people. We’ve had two adult men over 6 feet sit together and while it was a little closer than they probably wanted to be, there was a bit of room between them.

The quality of the fabric on the seat and the canopy is durable – sturdy and thick and doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall apart. It has of course only been one summer, but in the unyielding Southern California summer sun, the canopy isn’t faded and there are no visible signs of wear and tear on the seat and seat back, despite quite a bit of use.

We haven’t heard any squeaking or felt like it is unstable or going to tip no matter what combination of folks has been swinging.
It’s a comfortable height for most adults too – no dangling feet but high enough that you can push back with your feet a bit and be very comfortable.

For moms concerned about places where little fingers could get pinched, it really is a non-issue unless your kids are standing on the seat and reaching up to the height of the canopy where the attachment point is. I will say we have only done gentle swinging, so I can’t really speak to how the swing reacts if you get a couple of vigorous swingers in there.

Conclusion

The Gist – The Abba Patio Swing is a great quality product at a price point that is very reasonable and will really make a quaint addition to your backyard entertaining. Can you find something similar for less? Maybe. But I don’t think you will get the quality that the Abba offers. I think my family will enjoy this swing for several summers at least.
