The probe is a laboratory spectroscopy probe, based on the rigors of a laboratory, so the weekly calibration tip on the unit is just to remind you that if it is used in a lab, it needs to be calibrated every time. For less rigorous daily home use, weekly calibration is not required. After a period of use, you can calibrate with pure water. The purpose of calibrating by shaking with pure water is to ensure that the probe is not contaminated and that the accuracy error is small.
