- EMERGENCY MEASURES The interlock is manually operated. In residential or light commercial use, the interlock switch is moved from the mains circuit breaker to the generator circuit breaker when utility power is lost. The main breaker and all other breakers must be closed, the interlock switch set to the generator, and the generator engaged. Turn on the main breaker to energize the panel, then turn on individual breakers as needed.
