- When you need to finish sand the inside of your wood turned bowl it can be a challenge to keep the wood from showing scuff marks. Using a piece of hand held sandpaper can also be somewhat dangerous. Our bowl sander essentially fixes this issue by having a dual bearing, smooth rotating head that spins with the rotation of the bowl while the bowl is rotating on the lathe. - The rougher or lower grits like 60 grit can be used for abrasive planing and dimensioning. The medium grits like 80, 100 and 120 are typically can be used for lighter dimensioning projects and general surface prep. When using 150 grits and 220 grits we recommend using those higher grits for finishing passes only.
- The right amount of pressure you exert on your boards is absolutely critical. Too much and it will shorten the life of your abrasive roll, burn the material or cause problems with the motor on your machinery. To avoid too much pressure, with your machine turned off, place the material under the sanding drum, the raise or lower the drum so the drum contacts the material but can still be rotated by hand. Take the stock out with no more drum adjustment and proceed to sanding normally.
- Straight feed? How about angling your stock feed through the drum instead. Angling the stock offers many advantages like less loading due to glue lines, better and more even wear and reduced motor loads. Just a slight angle provides you with more effective stock removal. Keep in mind that to achieve the best finish, the last two passes on the material should always be with the grain.
- When sanding misshapen stock pieces you should always start sanding the piece with the crown side up. This helps prevent tipping or rocking when the piece is being fed through the sander. Once the down is gone, flip the stock over and sand the other side. As always, take extreme care and caution when sanding boards that are bowed, twisted or otherwise imperfect.

- The Sili Saw Blade Cleaning Tray not only provides you with the perfect place to clean your saw blade, the side wall also conveniently raises upward to make sure that you don t make a mess while cleaning your saw blade. Made from silicone rubber, the tray won t damage your carbide tipped saw blades and you can use most any type of saw blade cleaning solution without worrying about damaging the tray.
- In the center of the tray is a rubber protruding nub that accepts a standard 5/8 arbor hole size that is found on most saw blades. A saw blade with a 5/8 arbor hole opening fits snuggly around the nub. This comfortably holds your saw blade in place and actually allows you to rotate the blade while cleaning. The nub sits on a raised rubber base so you can tilt the blade side to side to raise up one end while your cleaning.
- The inner diameter of the Sili Saw Blade Cleaning Tray is approximately 13 so it will easily accommodate saw blades up to 12 in diameter. When the tray is fully raised, the tray measures approximately 2-1/8 tall which makes it the ideal container to clean saw blades in. Typically a soft nylon or brass wire brush (not included) is used to clean saw blades in conjunction with a saw blade cleaning solution (not included).
